Joe Nathan didn’t have the smoothest night at the office during his relief appearance in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s Tigers-Pirates game. Nathan entered the game and proceeded to put two men on base via walks with Detroit leading Pittsburgh 8-4, and the home crowd was not pleased.
Nathan hasn’t exactly had the best season this year and it appears that Tigers fans’ patience with the closer is wearing thin. Last night’s crowd booed him when things didn’t go well and extended sarcastic cheers when they did.
After a double play ended the game and gave the Tigers the win, Nathan fired back at the crowd with the ol’ Italian “eff you” chin sweep. Twice.
