Red Sox pitcher Ryan Dempster made an announcement (confirmed first by Ken Rosenthal) which many people not close to the organization felt came way out of left field, and it was an emotional one. Dempster acknowledged that he will not be playing in 2014, and at the same time will be giving up the $13.25 million in salary which he was entitled to. Red Sox beat writer Alex Speier was on hand for the announcement and gives us a pretty solid rundown via his Twitter account.
All in all, this could be a nice blessing in disguise for the BoSox.
