On Monday, the Arizona Cardinals decided to take a firm stance on where starting quarterback Kyler Murray stands within the team, but it backfired on them pretty quickly as fans remembered the last time that the team made a similar announcement.

As the NFL world prepares for the upcoming NFL Combine and the eventual NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals felt it fit to re-affirm their commitment to Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback of the future with the team currently holding the No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

“Our franchise QB,” the Arizona Cardinals official account said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

The only problem is, the last time the Cardinals sent out a post like this, it did not go well for the player as the team ironically ended up selecting Kyler Murray to replace Josh Rosen.

Back in February of 2019, the Arizona Cardinals sent a very similar post affirming that Josh Rosen was the team’s starting quarterback.

“Y’all are having fun with speculation, but…” the Cardinals official account said in a post before adding a quote from then-head coach Kliff Kingsbury that said, “Josh is our guy.”

Just a few months later, the Cardinals selected Murray with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and Rosen never played another game with the team.

So maybe Murray should be careful over the next few weeks.
