Kyler Murray Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Kyler Murray had a dazzling rookie season for the Arizona Cardinals after he was selected with the No. 1 overall pick, winning the team’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Since then, however, Arizona hasn’t exactly had a lot of success, leading some to wonder about his long-term future with the team. But the Cardinals reaffirmed their commitment to Murray on Monday.

As the NFL world prepares for the upcoming NFL Draft where the Cardinals currently hold the No. 4 overall pick, the team had a pretty firm declaration about the status of Kyler Murray as the team’s starting quarterback, announcing on social media that Murray was their “franchise QB.”

“Our franchise QB,” the Arizona Cardinals official account said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obviously, this announcement caught a lot of fans off guard because it was seemingly unprompted, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.

It’s worth noting that even if the Cardinals wanted to move on from Murray, it wouldn’t exactly be easy or cheap given the contract extension he signed recently. Murray is already guaranteed $35.3 million next season and another $11.9 million for the 2025 season if he’s on the roster on March 17, 2024, which obviously seems likely.
