This summer, EA Sports College Football 25 will mark the first time that real players are included in a college sports video game. Those players will be compensated for their name, image, and likeness, but the College Football Players Association does not think that compensation is adequate.

This week, players were given the option to opt into having their likeness included in the game. Players who do choose to opt in will receive $600 in compensation in addition to a copy of the EA Sports College Football 25 game for their gaming consoles.

However, the College Football Players Association called out EA Sports for not including any royalties as part of the deal, saying that the players are “being treated like children” with the company offering them a copy of the game in return.

“The news here is that this is the first group licensing deal in sports business history to not include royalties. CFB players get a video game instead of royalties. The athletes of the second most popular sport in America are being treated like children. Video games instead of [money],” the College Football Players Association said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

The vast majority of players are expected to opt into this deal, but some seem to have a problem with it.
