For those of you who think that the Special Olympics is some half-baked competition, talk to the Kansas City Chiefs’ Jamaal Charles, who competed in the Track and Field portion of the Special Olympics some years ago. And now, he returns as a Special Olympics alum to speak to the mentally disabled and inspire them to soar to new heights just like he did when he competed.

Opening up old wounds like his learning disability to thousands of people in front of a live audience probably wasn’t easy. But the hard thing never is, and Charles is all the better for it.
