The MLB All-Star Game might not be the biggest joke in sports but it’s pretty close. Although the game itself and atmosphere surrounding the All-Star break remains fantastic, the World Series home-field advantage aspect remains perplexing.
Allowing a fan-driven exhibition game to determine home-field advantage for the World Series is laughable, if not plain embarrassing for American sports. Because fans carry such heavy weight in determining who plays in the game, numerous well-deserving players are excluded in favor of fan favorites, flashy sluggers and washed up old-timers. As we head toward the 2015 Midsummer Classic in Cincinnati, check out five non-household names that are crushing it this season but might find it difficult wiggling into All-Star discussions.
