Colts offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus offered a very blunt opinion for Texas rookie defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney. The veteran lineman was asked about Clowney’s 9-plus month recovery after microfracture knee surgery, a procedure that Cherilus underwent in 2010 and he did not exactly provide the most encouragement (via Indy Star):
He’s screwed. His game is all about explosion. That’s a problem. I’m out there dancing. I’m an offensive lineman. That’s a different ballgame. He’s screwed. I’m just being honest.
Yes, Cherilus was just being honest but it appears to be a pretty aggressive assessment for a 21-year-old that only appeared in four games during an injury-riddled rookie season. The NFL is littered with big-time players that have defied the odds and come back from potentially career-threatening injuries and while it might be difficult for Clowney to ultimately regain the strength and mobility after returning, you’d still like to hope guys that stood in his shoes would provide a little more encouragement.
