The end of the short-sleeved NBA jersey may be near. New NBA commissioner Adam Silver will reportedly meet with LeBron James – one of the new gimmick’s biggest critics – after this season to discuss grievances over the jerseys and decide their future in the league.
Aside from looking completely and utterly ridiculous, several players have complained that the extra coverage of the short-sleeved jerseys really messes with their game, especially when it comes to shooting the ball.
As for their future, Silver could choose to mandate the jerseys less, allow teams to use them on their own terms, or just completely eliminate them from competition.
“Ultimately, if the players don’t like them, we’ll move on to something else,” Silver told Bleacher Report. “I don’t regret doing it for this season. But it’s intended to be something fun for the fans and the players. And if it becomes a serious issue, as to whether players should be wearing sleeves, we’ll likely move onto other things.”
I, for one, will be rooting for mass annihilation of the sleeves. If Silver can make that happen, I think his future as commish is a bright one.
