Each year around Christmas time, minor hockey leagues like the WHL and ECHL celebrate an event called the Teddy Bear Toss. Every teddy bear thrown onto the ice is collected and then delivered to various children’s hospitals and charities. Sunday afternoon’s WHL game between the Calgary Hitmen and Kootenay Ice attracted over 16,000 fans, all equipped with their stuffed toys. One of these fans captured Sunday’s event on video, where over 21,000 bears were sent flying throughout the Saddledome in celebration of Calgary’s first goal:
