With the entire sport of baseball needing to appeal to a younger audience to save its future, it was only a matter of time before a team decided to do something like the Red Sox just did. The team announced a new mascot named Tessie that will be making her debut at the team’s Winter Weekend which will be taking place from January 22-24 at Foxwoods Casino.
The new mascot is the team’s current mascot’s (Wally the Green Monster) little sister. An introduction to the new furry character can be found here. The new mascot is seemingly named after the Dropkick Murphy’s Red Sox anthem, “Tessie“.
The Red Sox took to Twitter to announce the supposed good news, but the mentions tell an entirely different story. Here are some of the best responses to the news so far.
