After their thorough destruction of the Indianapolis Colts, the New England Patriots have been subjected to an NFL investigation into whether the footballs that they used for the game were properly inflated.
While such a story would generally be semi-interesting, the whole thing takes on a more surreal tone when it comes to the Patriots, who have had to deal with accusations of cheating since the infamous “Spygate” controversy of 2007.
Tom Brady was asked about the ordeal on the Dennis & Callahan Morning Show and Brady was dismissive of the whole thing, calling it “ridiculous.”
“I think I’ve heard it all at this point,” he said on the Dennis and Callahan Morning Show.
“That’s the least of my worries,” he added later. “I don’t even respond to stuff like this.”
The NFL is investigating the matter and the Patriots stand to face a fine or a potential loss of draft picks if they are found guilty.
Right now, only two things are clear. First, the Patriots would have won the AFC Championship Game even if the balls were inflated to the point of bursting. Second, the media really needs to get more creative with naming potential scandals. “Deflate-gate” is the worst.
