New York Islanders captain John Tavares was on the receiving end of an open-ice hit from the Devils’ Marek Zidlicky during the final few minutes of the third period on Monday night in Long Island, and Tavares clearly wasn’t happy about the check. After being sent spinning to the ice, Tavares got back on his feet and immediately got revenge by spearing Zidlicky right in the groin.
Unfortunately for Tavares, the referees saw it happen and gave him two minutes for slashing as a result. He’s actually pretty lucky, considering a bush-league move like that could we worth a five-minute major and a game misconduct.
