With his team down by one goal with less than two minutes to go in Thursday’s Bruins-Canadiens game, Boston forward Milan Lucic took a costly penalty after a hit on Alexei Emelin. As you can imagine, this made Canadiens fans – who aren’t all that shy about their distaste for Lucic – very, very happy.
Boos rained down on Lucic as he stepped into the penalty box, and he decided to respond to those boos by gesturing to the crowd – first with a wanking motion, then with a Cup-raising gesture. The latter move doesn’t make a ton of sense considering the Habs have more Stanley Cup championships than any other franchise in the NHL, it’s been three and a half years since the Bruins won the Cup, and Montreal knocked Lucic & Co. out of last year’s playoffs.
The Canadiens would go on to score an empty-netter while on the power play and defeat the Bruins 6-4. Lucic wasn’t available to speak to the media following the game.
