The rivalry between the New York Knicks and the Nets has really intensified recently with players from each team trading barbs. The Nets have a new swagger thanks to their major overhaul this past summer by trading for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. Meanwhile the Knicks still think they own New York. Pierce started the drama when Pierce said, “Everybody knows how much I disliked the Knicks when I was with the Celtics, but I think it’s grown to another level. I think it’s time for the Nets to start running this city.” That quote prompted Knicks to strike back. Knicks guard Raymond Felton lashed back, “They will never take over the city. Because we’ve got ‘New York’ on our chest. They’ve got ‘Brooklyn’ on their chest, and we’ve got ‘New York.’ They’ll never take over the city. (Pierce) saying that is just him talking. At the end of the day, it’s all about rivalries. We understand that — he knows that, I know that. He’s just trying to fuel it.” J.R. Smith added, “I just look at him as a bitter person just getting out of Boston. He doesn’t really know what New York is all about. He’s been playing in Boston his whole career.”

Now the newest Knick has some words to say. When Metta World Peace was asked about the Nets he simply responded, “Honestly, I don’t even know who’s on their team. I’m not going to lie. I’m just happy to be a Knick. That’s it.” I would love to say that Metta is taking a jab at the Nets, but he legitimately might not know who’s on the Brooklyn Nets roster.

Metta World Peace also told reporters:

I just want apple pie, I don’t feel like talking. I want to go to Whole Foods, enjoy my Whole Foods and play with my teammates. I don’t have the energy to go back and forth with words because there’s just too many great things happening in New York City for me to be going back and forth.”

As a shopper who frequents and appreciates Whole Foods, I can really understand where MWP is coming from. Some times you just need to relax and have some delicious food and let the rest take care of itself.

Metta, who signed a two-year contract with the Knicks went on to say that his former squad, the Los Angeles Lakers, will be in the NBA Finals. I think the Lakers are going to go to the NBA Finals. I think Kobe (Bryant’s) gonna be healthy, they’re gonna get Pau (Gasol). The Lakers are gonna make a big trade like they always do. They’re gonna get another good player, boom, boom, and they’re gonna go to the Finals. I believe it. Kobe’s gonna come back, he’s gonna play team ball, and Pau’s gonna play well.”

Never a dull moment with Metta World Peace around.
