As Caitlin Clark wrapped up her record-setting college career and headed to the WNBA where she was the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever, she got a pretty clear warning from WNBA star Diana Taurasi who warned her that “reality is coming” when she entered the professional ranks, indicating that Clark might not have immediate success. But that does not seem to be the case.
Shortly before Caitlin Clark finished her college career, Diana Taurasi told SportsCenter’s Scott Van Pelt that “reality was coming” for Clark when she entered the WNBA.
“There’s levels to this thing. And that’s just life, we all went through it,” Taurasi said. “You see it on the NBA side, and you’re going to see it on this side. You look superhuman playing against 18-year-olds, but you’re going to come with some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time.”
But when Clark made her preseason debut in the WNBA this weekend, she didn’t seem to have the struggles that Taurasi predicted she would have. Clark finished her first game in the WNBA with 21 points along with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals as she was immediately one of the better players on the court.
It’s obviously still early in her professional career, but that was a pretty firm response to Taurasi’s warning already.
