The Gilmour Academy girls varsity basketball team competed against Northeast Ohio Preparatory School on Wednesday evening in what ended up being a painfully one-sided playoff contest between the two high school squads.
Gilmour put up 108 points over the course of the game. Northeast Ohio Preparatory scored one point, a free throw in the first half.

Gilmour Academy athletic director Jeff Walrich denied that the team tried to run up the score and coach Bob Beutel told FOX Sports that he switched up his game plan at half time after his Lancers outscored the opposition 72-1.
“I told my team ‘you still gotta be fundamental.’ We played zone, which is something we never do, so they could get shots up. I said we aren’t gonna press and play fundamental basketball. I told them to make sure they handle themselves with sportsmanship.
“We don’t want to disrespect the game of basketball or the other team. It’s like in baseball, when you’re up 9-0 with a guy on first, you don’t steal second.”
This is certainly not the first time this season that Gilmour has enjoyed a lopsided win this season. The team defeated Warrensville Heights 92-15 in a game last December and they beat Lake Catholic 79-38 back in January.
For what it’s worth, NEO Prep did release a statement saying that they were proud of the way that their team handled the defeat.
“While the final score did not result in our favor, the entire I CAN SCHOOLS network of campuses is extremely proud of the camaraderie and sportsmanship that our team displayed during and after the game. At Northeast Ohio College Preparatory School, our scholars are taught to embody respect, responsibility, and relentlessness. All three characteristics were on display yesterday. We faced an incredibly talented team, and we congratulate Gilmour Academy on their victory and pursuit of a championship.”
