Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel underwent an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday morning but somehow still hopes to play Sunday at division rival San Diego, according to The Kansas City Star. For fantasy owners of Dwayne Bowe; Cosby Sweaters is truly sorry as he could be out for up to 4 weeks.
Cassel has thrown 23 touchdown passes with only four interceptions, leading the Chiefs into first place in the AFC West. Kansas City is the only division leader in the NFL with a two-game lead, over Oakland and San Diego.
The surgery was performed laparoscopically, according to ESPN, thus greatly reducing his recovery time.
