Circus

YouTube is a circus. It’s a swap meet of crappy video with a few hidden gems. I rarely search on for video on YouTube. I get my YouTube content when it’s emailed to me or it’s embedded on a website I visit.

A recent article in AdAge talks about YouTube’s recent moves to attract high-quality content producers. Just this month Google acquired Next New Networks, a producer of original programming. Google has also been in discussions with Hollywood producers and agents where Google would provide between $2 million and $5 million of seed money to those willing to produce exclusive channels with quality content at a scheduled frequency.

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds from an advertising perspective since video is a medium that will require a more hands-on content/advertiser relationship than algorithmic matching of advertiser and content.
