Former United States President Donald Trump is running for United States president once again this year as he challenges Joe Biden, and it sounds like Trump will have the support of one of the best relief pitchers of all time.
During a recent appearance on WABC Radio’s “Sid & Friends” with Sid Rosenberg, New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera revealed that he will be supporting and voting for Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election, making it clear that he views Trump as a friend.
“President Trump, he’s my friend,” the all-time Major League Baseball saves leader said according to Fox News. “I can’t deny that. I will tell that to anyone. Before he was the president, he was my friend. Because of that, I’m going to vote for him.”
Rivera was previously honored by Trump during his presidency as he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Trump back in 2019. During the ceremony, Trump, a noted Yankees fan, called the legendary pitcher “maybe the greatest pitcher of all time.”
Rivera played all 19 seasons of his storied Major League Baseball career with the New York Yankees where he recorded an all-time record 652 saves and helped the Yankees win five World Series championships.
