Donald Trump continues to insist that Canada could become the 51st state of the United States, and now it sounds like he has an idea of who he would want to be the governor of Canada if that were to happen.
Earlier this month, Donald Trump suggested in a post on social media that he thinks Canada should become America’s 51st state.
He went as far as to suggest that “many Canadians” would actually want this to happen.
“No one can answer why we subsidize Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year? Makes no sense! Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State. They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!” Trump posted on Truth Social earlier this month.
On Christmas Day, Trump offered the insane suggestion that NHL legend Wayne Gretzky could become the “Governor of Canada.”
I just left Wayne Gretzky, ‘The Great One’ as he is known in Ice Hockey circles. I said, ‘Wayne, why don’t you run for Prime Minister of Canada, soon to be known as the Governor of Canada – You would win easily, you wouldn’t even have to campaign,'” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
However, it does not sound like Gretzky was particularly interested in that.
“He had no interest, but I think the people of Canada should start a DRAFT WAYNE GRETZKY Movement. It would be so much fun to watch!” he continued.
While it’s extremely unlikely that Trump and the United States actually go forward with a plan to annex Canada, that does not seem to be stopping Trump from talking about it.
We’ll have to see if Trump actually tries to take steps toward making this a reality when he takes office next month.
