Ever since partnering with transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney, iconic sports tailgate beer Bud Light has seen an absolutely massive drop-off in sales. And it sounds like those in the beverage industry expect sales to stay low for quite some time.
As the New York Post reported on Monday, many any Anheuser-Busch distributors say they have admitted defeat and have given up on luring back customers after the Dylan Mulvaney fiasco, predicting that those customers simply will not return.
“Consumers have made a choice,” an executive at a Texas-based beer distributor who did not want to be identified told the New York Post. “They have left [Bud Light] and that’s how it’s going to be. I don’t envision a big percentage of them coming back.”
The executive explained that it’s likely that the previous consumers of Bud Light have already found that some competitors like Miller Lite or Coors Light “are a very similar product” and no longer have the need to purchase Bud Light.
Last week, Bud Light announced hundreds of layoffs following the brutal financial downturn and while their sales appear to be stabilizing, it doesn’t sound like most of their customers will be coming back anytime soon.
