While it was never much in doubt, United States gymnastics legend Simone Biles officially punched her ticket to the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris this weekend.
As the Associated Press reports, Simone Biles posted the top all-around score at trials this weekend to clinch the automatic spot on the United States Olympic team.
“The gymnastics superstar earned a third trip to her sport’s biggest stage by cruising to victory at the U.S. Olympic trials on Sunday night, posting a two-day all-around total of 117.225 to clinch the lone automatic spot on the five-woman team,” the Associated Press reported.
“Three years removed from the Tokyo Olympics — where she pulled out of multiple finals to prioritize her safety and mental health — Biles heads back to the Games looking perhaps as good as ever.”
Biles was undoubtedly going to receive an invitation to be on the roster regardless of how she performed over the weekend, but her dominace at the Olympic trials shut down any question about her ability to perform at a high level.
Obviously, Biles took some time away from the sport after pullling out of the Tokyo Olympics due to mental health reasons. But now she is back and it appears that she is ready to try to lead the team to victory.
