Martin Brodeur and Sean Avery have never been the best of friends. Their most famous confrontation came in the 2008 playoffs when Avery, then with the Rangers, committed to an obnoxious screen in front of Brodeur that eventually led to a goal and, ultimately, a league rule change.
But, despite the fact that Avery hasn’t suited up for an NHL game in a couple of years, their personal tiff seems to be alive and well.
Avery’s two-week stint as a contestant on this season of ‘Dancing With The Stars’ (he blamed the show’s producers for his early exit) became the subject of a Brodeur interview this week, and the Devils netminder didn’t have a lot of nice things to say.
“I didn’t watch — I don’t watch those shows — but I was watching NHL Network and they mentioned it,” Brodeur told NJ.com.
And his thoughts?
“What more could he do to embarrass himself?” Brodeur said with a chuckle. “There it is!”
And while those comments weren’t very nice, I also wouldn’t say they were incorrect either.
Anyways, it appears that Avery finally caught wind of Brodeur’s comments on Thursday. He responded with some heavy blows on Twitter:
Yikes. Avery pulls the classic “woke up next to a supermodel” hardo line and then pokes fun at Brodeur for being a “fatso” and cheating on his wife. I guess we can’t accuse him of taking the high road on this one.
And now we wait to see if Marty responds.
