The NHL is trying desperately to make the game safer while still preserving the tenacity that makes the game so special. So, this offseason they instituted a new rule that prohibited players from removing their helmets prior to engaging in a fight. They hoped this would limit the number of head injuries resulting from fights.
Not only have players found loopholes within the rule, but they’ve also begun accepting the additional minor penalty for removing their buckets before fighting.
Tonight we saw an example of the latter, as Mark Fraser of the Maple Leafs and Montreal’s Travis Moen danced around as they delegated about what to do with their helmets before they began slugging it out.
The NHL should probably figure this out before it gets really embarrassing.
