Throughout the course of his career, Matt Cooke has been notorious for dirty plays and dangerous cheap shots. Bruins fans know this all too well, as Cooke was the guy who essentially ended the career of Boston forward Marc Savard with a brutal elbow to the head that landed Savard with a level three concussion.
And while many have lauded Cooke for his recent clean streak, the Penguins forward didn’t waste much time in delivering a very dangerous hit in the Pittsburgh-Boston Eastern Conference Finals series. Cooke was ejected from Game 1 of the ECF on Saturday after boarding Adam McQuaid face first into the glass early in the second period. Cooke was assessed a five minute major and a game misconduct and McQuaid was shaken up on the play and had to head to the Bruins locker room.
Fortunately for Cooke, McQuaid ended up checking out okay and it doesn’t look like the controversial Pens forward will face any supplemental discipline from the league.
