Ahead of the start of the NFL’s new league year, the Seattle Seahawks are making moves. And they’re clearing cap space while doing so.
On Tuesday, the Seahawks announced that they have released three key players, clearing $25 million in salary cap space in the process. Among the players released by Seattle was safety Quandre Diggs, who has been a staple of the Seahawks defense for the past five years.
Originally selected in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Texas product spent the first five and a half seasons of his career with the Detroit Lions. During the 2019 season, the Lions traded Diggs to Seattle and he went on to earn three consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 2020-2022 while playing for the franchise.
In addition to being one of the Seahawks’ top defenders, the Houston, Texas, native has also been one of its most reliable, having not missed a regular-season game since the 2019 campaign. Appearing in 17 games last season, Diggs recorded 95 tackles, five pass defenses and one interception.

In addition to Diggs, the Seahawks also released former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams and tight end Will Dissly. It’s been a season featuring no shortage of change in Seattle, with the Seahawks firing longtime head coach Pete Carroll and hiring former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald to replace him.
