San Francisco 49ers Maria Lysaker-USA TODAY Sports

On Monday morning, NFL insider Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported that the San Francisco 49ers were “not pleased” with the conditions of the field turf on the practice field they were given by the league ahead of their Super Bowl LVIII matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. And the situation has led a lot of fans to criticize the team for complaining and appearing to make preemptive excuses.

As Jones reports, the Niners were unhappy with the turf firmness of their practice field as the team felt that the field they were given was too soft, even though it met all NFL, NFL Players Association, and independent standards. Jones reported that the complaint was “not a health-and-safety issue as much as it’s simply a preference issue.”

“Sources tell CBS Sports some 49ers staffers are not pleased with the practice field at UNLV, where the NFL designated the NFC champion practice during Super Bowl week. At issue, sources say, is the firmness of the natural grass the NFL has laid over UNLV’s artificial turf ahead of the 49ers practicing there,” Jones wrote for CBS this week.

This led to a flurry of reactions of fans calling out the Niners for complaining and making excuses in advance of Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Obviously, the complaints about the field conditions did not go over well with fans.
