O.J. Simpson is currently serving a 33-year sentence in a Nevada prison, and over the years he’s become somewhat of a celebrity among inmates — his producer friend Norman Pardo says “he’s like the Godfather of the prison now”. Helping his cause is the fact Simpson also has a television in his cell, which is a luxury afforded very few inmates. Thus, you can imagine where the biggest Super Bowl bash at Lovelock Correctional Facility takes place. On February 3rd, the former N.F.L. great reportedly crammed fellow inmates into his 80-square-foot cell, taking in the Ravens’ victory over the 49ers — Simpson played the final two seasons of his 11-year career in San Francisco, so we’ll assume he was rooting for the losing squad (seems fitting, right?).
In 2008, Simpson was convicted of kidnapping and assault charges stemming from an armed robbery in a Las Vegas hotel room. His sentencing on October 3rd, 2008 came exactly 13 years after he was acquitted of the murders of Ronald Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson. He is eligible for parole after nine years. In other bad news for Simpson, he still owes the government $515,000 in unpaid taxes. Too bad he’s fresh out of Heisman trophies to sell.
