Over the past few seasons, the Philadelphia Eagles have found a lot of success with their “tush push” quarterback sneak, in which players line up behind quarterback Jalen Hurts and help push him forward on quarterback sneak plays. But even though the play has led to a lot of conversation, the NFL does not have any plans to consider banning the play anytime in the near future.
According to Pro Football Talk, the NFL announced on Thursday that there are no plans to discuss banning the “tush push” in the future.
“NFL Executive V.P. of Football Operations Troy Vincent confirmed on Thursday that there is no proposal from any team or from the Competition Committee to ban the quarterback sneak play that the Eagles have run so effectively, and no plans to discuss a rule against the play at the upcoming owners’ meeting,” Michael David Smith wrote for Pro Football Talk.
Obviously, this means that the Eagles will be able to continue using their extremely effective short-yardage play, and other teams will be permitted to try to copy it if they so desire.
There was a lot of conversation about the play throughout the past two seasons, but it sounds like the NFL has decided to allow the play to continue.
