The New York Giants spent much of the pre-draft process meeting with some of the top quarterback prospects and seemed quite interested in adding a new quarterback in the first round. That ultimately did not happen as the team selected wide receiver Malik Nabers with the No. 6 overall pick instead. And it sounds like the Giants are content moving forward with their current quarterback situation.
Following their draft selection on Thursday night, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen opened up a bit about the team’s draft selections, revealing that Malik Nabers was “the guy we targeted” indicating that the team was not all that serious about the possibility of selecting a quarterback with J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix all still on the board at No. 6.
Schoen indicated that the team was happy moving forward with Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback and with Drew Lock as his backup behind him.
“I’m comfortable with where we’re at,” Schoen said after the first round according to Pro Football Talk.
The Giants just signed Jones to a contract extension before the 2023 season, and it seems like they are content with him leading the way at least for now.
