New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones had a rough season last year as he struggled in the first five weeks of the season before missing some time with a neck injury and ultimately suffering a season-ending ACL injury in Week Nine. But it sounds like the team understands that the struggles weren’t all his fault.
During a recent episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen admitted the brutal truth about the struggles of Daniel Jones as he admitted that the quarterback “didn’t have much of a chance” due to the team’s poor offensive line as he went as far as to suggest that Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes wouldn’t have even been successful in that situation.
“He didn’t have much of a chance this year,” Schoen said according to Pro Football Talk. “That’s legit. The core guys that were gonna play together played 60 snaps together. Miami, we got three [freaking] practice squad guys playing for us. You could have Pat Mahomes he can’t [freaking] win behind that.”
Jones is heading into the second year of his contract after the team signed him to a four-year deal worth $160 million before the start of the 2023 season. It’s clear that the team is looking for him to prove himself this season – we’ll have to see if he can do it.
