Before the 2023 season, the New York Giants gave a hefty contract extension to quarterback Daniel Jones, rewarding him for the best season of his young career in which he led the team to the postseason. But a year after the team seemingly committed to him, it sounds like he’s now going to have to prove himself all over again.
During a personnel meeting that was featured in a recent episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen had a pretty brutal message for Daniel Jones as he made it pretty clear that the team is looking for Jones to prove himself this upcoming season, or they will be looking to replace him with someone else in the future.
“This is the year for Daniel,” Schoen said. “The plan all along was to give him a couple years. Is he our guy for the next 10 years? Or do we need to pivot and go find someone else?”
Jones signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension before the start of the 2023 season, but he missed most of the season after suffering a season-ending ACL injury. We’ll have to see whether or not he is able to bounce back and prove himself this season.
