New England Patriots star edge rusher Matthew Judon made it pretty clear that he thinks it was time for the team to part ways with Bill Belichick and move on to Jerod Mayo, but he also thinks another team throughout the league should hire his former coach.
During a recent appearance on Good Morning Football, Jerod Mayo explained that he thought that it was necessary for the Patriots to move on from Belichick, saying that the move brought new life to the team, even if he does think that Belichick is a great coach.
“Belichick was a great coach. I looked up to him,” Judon said according to Boston.com. “I think he is one of the best to ever do it, at the clip that he did it and the high-level IQ that he had, it was amazing to learn from him.”
“But, I think with him leaving, it’s just new energy and new life in the building,” Judon continued. “Sometimes it’s just time and I think it was just one of those times.”
Belichick was not able to secure another head coaching job after parting ways with the New England Patriots, but Judon thinks that’s a mistake and called for teams to hire his former coach.
“I would say ‘hire that guy’,” Judon said. “He’s going to be great for the organization, great for the team. I would also have to tell them about the downfalls, like there might not be too many smiles you get out the dude. It might not be too many laughs and jokes you might get out of him … but it’s hard to get better than that as a head coach.”
We’ll have to see if teams take Judon’s advice next season.
