The Chicago Bears were able to notch a victory on Sunday afternoon without star quarterback Justin Fields. But even though rookie backup quarterback Tyson Bagent played well during Sunday’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders, it doesn’t sound like the Bears are planning to make any changes in terms of their starting quarterback.

During his postgame press conference, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus announced that Justin Fields would remain the team’s starting quarterback as soon as he was healthy enough to play.

“Justin is our starting quarterback. Tyson’s the backup, he came in and did a nice job,” Eberflus said in his postgame press conference according to Pro Football Talk. “We don’t know where Justin is, we’ll see where he is, if it’s a week-to-week thing, we’ll assess it more tomorrow.”

It’s a pretty clear announcement about the team’s plans at quarterback this season, and the NFL world had a lot to say about the announcement on social media.

Bagent, an undrafted rookie who played his college football at Shepherd University at the Division II level, completed 21 of 29 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball three times for 24 yards.

It was quite a debut for Bagent, but it sounds like he’ll have to wait for his chance to become a full-time starter.
