When Cincinnati Bengals superstar quarterback Joe Burrow went down with an injury this season, the team turned to backup Jake Browning who played the first meaningful snaps of his NFL career. Browning actually performed quite well, winning several games for the team and keeping them in playoff contention. And as a result, he thinks he’s proven he should be a starter somewhere.
Even though Jake Browning acknowledges that he will not be a starter over Joe Burrow next season, he does not think that there are 32 quarterbacks in the world who are better than him, and he thinks he has proven that he should be a starter in the league.
“I’ve established that I’m capable of being a starter in the NFL,” Browning said. “I’m one of the Top 32 quarterbacks in the world and just happen to be on a roster with a guy who’s proven he’s a Top 5 quarterback in the world.”
However, the Bengals currently hold exclusive rights to Browning next season, meaning they can sign him for the league-minimum salary next season or trade him to another team. So he understands that his future is out of his hands.
“What that looks like going forward I have no idea, nor do I have any control,” Browning said.
We’ll have to see what the Bengals choose to do with Browning next season.
