The scariest part of the Seattle Seahawks’ vaunted defense is that strong safety Kam Chancellor is just the third-best player on that side of the ball. Oh, did I forget to mention that’s just in the secondary, alone? Here’s an even scarier thought: he’s probably the Hawks’ fourth or fifth-best defensive player overall (linebacker Bobby Wagner and defensive end Michael Bennett are in that mix). However, in terms of pure physicality, nobody in the NFL strikes more fear in opposing players than Bam-Bam Kam, the enforcer of a secondary that is slowly creeping into the conversation for the best of all time.
Yes, “best of all time”. If that sounds crazy, consider that free safety Earl Thomas is a four-time All-Pro (three First Teams), Richard Sherman is now a three-time First Team All-Pro, and Kam is a two-time Second Team All-Pro (and probably would have been first team this season if not for injuries). You really can’t do much better than that.
Kam was a fifth-round draft pick in 2010 — the first draft of the Pete Carroll era — along with Earl Thomas (#14 overall), and it’s been Boom City ever since. Pay special attention to the part where Kam is basically responsible for ending Vernon Davis’ career.
