Before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Russell Wilson had a brief “exploratory” meeting with the New York Giants, which seemed to be an indication that the team was looking to move on from previous starter Daniel Jones. But that does not seem to be the case, after all.
According to a report from Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the New York Giants were not willing to make any promises to Russell Wilson about a potential starting spot as they head into the upcoming season working under the assumption that Daniel Jones will remain the team’s starting quarterback.
“The Giants had an exploratory meeting last week with Russell Wilson, and the team didn’t make any promises about playing time, according to league sources. That’s been the Giants’ approach as they’ve built toward the 2024 season with Jones as the expected starter.
This approach lines up with what new Giants quarterback Drew Lock said during a recent press conference as he indicated that the team made it clear they were signing him to be the backup quarterback of the team, not to compete with Jones as the starter.
Based on all of this, it’s very clear that the team has decided that Jones will be their starting quarterback this season.
