Earlier this month, the New York Giants signed veteran quarterback Drew Lock, leading some to suggest that the team could be looking to offer some competition for Daniel Jones at the quarterback position. But it doesn’t sound like that’s actually the case, after all.
During a recent interview with NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero at the Annual League Meeting on Saturday, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that even despite the addition of Drew Lock, Daniel Jones will still be the Giants’ starting quarterback this upcoming season once he is able to return from his knee injury.
“We’re excited to have Drew, and he knows what his role is going to be,” Daboll told Pelissero of NFL.com this week. “He’s going to get a lot of reps this spring, he needs to learn our system, but again excited to get Daniel back, when he gets back he’ll be the guy.”
Obviously, this is a significant decision from the Giants, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.

I have a feeling Daniel Jones will get the Russ or Carr treatment given the contract and injury guarantee situation, though quite a few weeks earlier into the season than those two.. I imagine Lock recognized that possibility too.

Why am I already pulling for week 15 Monday night swag Lock to take this job from Jones?! Lock like Smith is taking the road less traveled to find redemption. Keep going kid!

The Giants signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract extension ahead of the 2022 season. We’ll have to see how he performs for the team this season.
