The Chicago Bears are currently facing a decision about what to do at the quarterback position. The team currently holds the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and could either select a quarterback like Caleb Williams or stick with Justin Fields. But a new report suggests that in a shocking twist, they could actually do both.
According to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chicago Bears are considering the idea of keeping Justin Fields and selecting a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick.
“They have talked about the idea, as unlikely as it seems, of carrying both quarterbacks; taking the guy at 1, and keeping Fields. Now, will they get to that? It’s hard to imagine that. But that is a conversation that’s come up within the organization,” Schefter said on ESPN on Sunday.
And Schefter was adamant that this was not merely a “smokescreen,” as colleague Tedy Bruschi suggested. He insisted that it’s something the Bears have actually discussed.
“It’s not a smokescreen,” Schefter declared. “They’ve talked about it. I’m not telling you they’re doing it, but they’ve talked about it.”
It’s a pretty shocking plan, we’ll have to see whether or not the Bears actually do it.
