The New York Jets are in the midst of their mandatory minicamp this week, which means that any player who does not attend the minicamp will be subject to fines. And in a pretty surprising twist, it sounds like future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers decided to skip practice on Tuesday.
According to New York Jets beat writer Brian Costello of the New York Post, Aaron Rodgers decided to skip the team’s mandatory practice on Tuesday, making it an unexcused absence.
“Aaron Rodgers is also not here. It is an unexcused absence,” Costello said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Given that it is an unexcused absence, Rodgers will be subject to a fine as a result of his decision to skip practice. But it sounds like he understood that.
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke to the media following practice and addressed Rodgers’ absence. Saleh said that Rodgers decided to skip practice on Tuesday in order to attend an event that is “important to him,” according to Ian Rapoport.
It’s not clear what the event was, but Rodgers has become rather notorious for his many hobbies and interests outside of football.
