When the Sacramento Kings tossed around the idea of running an innovative* 4-on-5 defensive scheme that would leave one cherry-picker open for an easy basket, this probably isn’t what they had in mind (at least I sure hope it wasn’t). The Kings appeared to add a bizarre twist to the concept on Monday night by “hiding” Reggie Evans to the bench, and running him out on the court once the Kings regained possession. In reality, Evans thought he had been subbed out and inadvertently sat for an entire defensive possession. He hopped on the court once the Kings regained possession, and slipped in behind the Nets defense. In typical Kings fashion, Evans missed the open dunk and the Nets took it the other way.
* By “innovative” I mean a loony tactic concocted by owner Vivek Ranadive when he coached his daughter’s youth team.
