This week, the Brooklyn Nets signed Alan Anderson, a journeyman guard/forward who has spent half of his pro career bouncing around various European leagues. His contract is a paltry $947,907, but because it nudges their total payroll to $30,463,009 over the tax threshold, owner Mikhail Prokhorov is now stuck with a tax bill of $87,199,293 — down from the previous (and, in hindsight, only-slightly-less-absurd) $82,939,184.
While Anderson likely isn’t the key ingredient to a potential deep playoff run, with all the money Prok is tossing around, the Nets had better at least get past the first round this year.
