It’s been awhile since we’ve done a Sad SuperSonics post, so here goes. We’ll start with this ultra-depressing fact: there are currently five active players in the NBA who played in Seattle as Sonics. As of this moment, three of them — kind of unbelievably — are members of the Oklahoma City Thunder. There are the lifers (Kevin Durant, Nick Collison), and then there’s Luke Ridnour, a draft mate of Collison back in 2003 when both were selected in the lottery by the then-Sonics (the other two are Jeff Green and Reggie Evans). Ridnour was dumped during the same off season the team moved from Seattle to OKC, mainly because the team had just upgraded the point guard position from a scrawny white guy to this not-scrawny guy.
Ridnour spent the next seven seasons bouncing around the league: Milwaukee, Minnesota, back to Milwaukee, Charlotte and, finally, Orlando. Now, it appears nobody wants him, as he’s been traded three times in the last 24 hours. Ridnour is 34, has 12 seasons under his belt, and probably doesn’t have much time left in his career. Now, he’s at that point where salary dumping teams are tossing him around like a rag doll. So, why am I dedicating 200+ words to Luke friggin’ Ridnour? Because it’s an excuse to revisit this great (greatest?) moment in Luke Ridnour’s career, when the kid from Blaine (WA) got his White Chocolate on against the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the 2005 NBA Playoffs.
