Before Monday night, here is the list of people who had hit eight three point shots in a single quarter in an NBA game: Michael Redd. That’s it. That’s the list…err…it was the list. Enter, Joe Johnson. Monday night, the Brooklyn Nets faced off against a Philadelphia 76ers squad that has finally grasped this whole tanking concept. Sensing this, Johnson unleashed a shooting performance for the ages. He drained eight three pointers on his way to a 29-point third quarter, and a 37-point performance overall.
His eight threes tied Redd’s NBA record set in 2002, and his ten threes in the game were two shy of the NBA record, shared by both Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall (don’t worry, I forgot about Donyell Marshall, too). Johnson’s total is now the best long-range performance this season, topping Stephen Curry and Jeremy Lin, who have both put up nine in a single game. Lin’s nine treys also came against the Sixers, which means it’s pretty much always “game on” from deep against them — that should definitely help with the whole tanking thing.
