The most impressive play of Spring Training may have came on Sunday afternoon, when the Mets faced off against the Nationals in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
In the top of the sixth inning of a scoreless game, Nationals slugger Bryce Harper dropped a surprise bunt that turned into a slow roller towards second base. Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy had to charge the ball and – even after barehanding the ball cleanly – get creative to have any chance of getting Harper at first.
After fielding on the move with his throwing hand, Murphy executed a flawless shorthand toss through his own legs to get the assist on the out at first. Pretty awesome play.
Harper, who was beat by no more than half a step, couldn’t believe what just happened. Murphy, meanwhile, was loving every second of it.
