Shortly after the conclusion of the Masters on Sunday, rumors began to circulate that speculated on Rory McIlroy potentially departing from the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf. But on Tuesday, McIlroy dispelled those rumors in the most definitive way possible, cementing his allegiance to the PGA Tour.
Previous reports suggested that McIlroy was “close” to completing a deal with LIV Golf that would have netted him $850 million along with an equity percentage in the Saudi-backed golf league.
In a discussion with Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis on Tuesday, McIlroy claimed that he has never been offered a contract by LIV and that he plans on playing for the PGA Tour for “the rest of his career”.
“I honestly don’t know how these things get started,” said McIlroy. “I’ve never been offered a number from LIV. And I’ve never contemplated going to LIV. I think I’ve made it clear over the last two years that I don’t think it’s something for me. Doesn’t mean that I judge people who have gone and played over there.
“Personally for me, my future is here on the PGA Tour. It’s never gonna be any different. I’m obviously here to play this PGA Tour event this week. And I will play the PGA Tour for the rest of my career.”

Considering how adamantly McIlroy has supported the PGA Tour amidst their feud with LIV Golf, it certainly makes sense to hear this kind of statement from him.
Only time will tell whether any kind of merger comes from the two golf leagues. Talks have certainly slowed down on the front.
But it sure seems like whatever happens to the PGA Tour, McIlroy will remain one of the top faces of the league for quite some time.
