Donald Trump’s new announced deal for LIV Golf to return to his Doral property next spring could cause major problems for his party’s efforts to impeach Joe Biden.
House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Kentucky) appeared on Fox Business last week and explained the task ahead for House Republicans.
“We know they got tens of millions of dollars from bad people in bad countries. We don’t know what exactly they did,” he said, according to the Washignton Post. “We fear Joe Biden is compromised.”
The House Republicans will have a hard time explaining how any of Biden’s activities are different than Trump’s arrangement with the Saudi Arabian government-backed LIV Golf.
“TRUMP NATIONAL DORAL, in Miami,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, “just signed with LIV GOLF to host a Championship Tournament in April, 2024. The event they had at Doral in October was a major success!”
Philip Bump, columnist for The Washington Post, detailed why that’s a bad arrangement for House Republicans.
“Given the shakiness of the foundation to the Republican impeachment, the last thing they would need in this particular moment is a more robust example of a Republican former official who is not currently in public service directly and demonstrably taking a lot of money from bad foreign actors,” Bump wrote.
“Such an occurrence would only make more obvious how tenuous their Biden accusations are.”
Only time will tell if Republicans go through with their threat to impeach Biden ahead of his re-election campaign next year.
