7. El Oso Blanco
The feel good story of the 2013 MLB Season is the stuff of Hollywood. Evan Gattis, the Braves’ catcher/pinch-hit-home-run-specialist gave us a good ol’ fashion American Comeback. Gattis never was drafted out of high school and eventually fell into a routine of self-medication. Gattis went to rehab and when he finished his stint at rehab, he began to wander the country working different odd-jobs. He worked as a valet, a janitor, and at Yellowstone National Park. Gattis returned to baseball in 2010, playing at University of Texas of the Permian Basin, where he reignited his career. The Braves took Gattis in the 23rd Round of the draft, and invited him to Spring Training in 2013. And the rest, as they say, is History.
