In this crazy world full of instability and hatred it’s comforting to know that diplomacy is still alive and well between North Korea and the United States in the form of the undying bromance between Dennis Rodman and Kim Jung-Un. The Hall of Fame basketball player arrived in Pyongyang on Tuesday for another visit with the North Korean dictator. It was expected that Rodman made his five-day trip to negotiate the release of a jailed American missionary Kenneth Bae, but Rodman told Reuters, “I’m not going to North Korea to discuss freeing Kenneth Bae. I’m just going there on another basketball diplomacy tour.” This is the exact opposite of what Rodman told Huffington Post just last week, “I will definitely ask for Kenneth Bae’s release. I will say, ‘Marshal, why is this guy held hostage?’ I could try and soften it up in that way,” Rodman said. The Worm boasted that he would be “the most powerful guy in the world” if he successfully negotiated Bae’s release. Bae was a Christian missionary and tour guide who was arrested last year by North Korean authorities and sentenced to 15 years of hard labor with cryptic charges of “hostile acts” against the government. No word yet on when Rodman is going to be deployed to Syria to befriend President Bashar al-Assad.
